Introduction:
-
The Bixby Bridge is a historical concrete bridge in Big Sur area, California.
-
It was assumed to rebuilt the bridge in the same model.
-
Used SAP2000 to model and analyze the bridge.

Details:
As a team leader, I supervise my three team members'' work and was in charge of bridge modeling, loading analysis and Structural Design (beams, columns, decks and retaining walls).

Based on the bridge diameters, the model was built in SAP2000 at the very beginning of the project. As shown in the picture below. Fixed end was used for all the columns and the piers, but the pinned end for the decks because of the earthquake force in that area (Fig. 1-2)

After modeling, the loading and lateral forces within Big Sur area through AASHTO Code, IBC Code were applied to the software to generate the failure model (Fig.1-3).
The output of critical bending moment yield strength in different sections of the bridge were obtained from the SAP2000. (Fig.1-9)

Structural design was used for finalizing the new section size, arranging rebar and checking satisfaction. (Fig. 1-4 to 1-8)
